Skintflicks has completed the first of three collaborative films with dancers, poets and composers. Commissioned by Nathalie Teitler from Dancing Words, the film features contemporary dancer Ella Mesma, the poetry of this year’s Forward Prize nominee Karen McCarthy Woolf, and musical composition by Andrea Allegra. The work was funded by the Arts Council.
The film has had a very positive reception, including the following comment from one of the UK’s leading poets, Mimi Khalvati
‘I watched the marvellous film of Karen’s Morbleu. It’s a perfect piece of collaborative art, tender, poignant and heart-wrenching. It seems to expand the space into a terrible loneliness with the smallness of the baby who is being born and dying at the centre of it. And I hear Karen’s voice more clearly, and movingly, as the voice of the mother than I’ve ever heard before. Congratulations to you and all the artists.’
